Hello! We are so excited that you are planning an Alaskan Adventure and that Homer is on your radar. Our names are Shawn and Ginny and our Adventure began much like yours. In August of of 2013 we took a family vacation to Alaska. Oh by the way we have four children who were 11, 9 year old twins, and a 6 year old when we visited. We spent most of our time traveling the Kenai Pennisula. We had the best time hiking and fishing. Although I absolutely hated the mosquitos that seem to be everywhere but Homer ha! On our second to last day we travel the Sterling Hwy to experience majestic Homer Alaska. And believe me it did not disappoint. It was one of those perfectly clear days where the Heaven opened and all of its beauty was right before us. I could not fathom what I was experiencing. Don’t get me wrong the other parts that we visited were incredible…. but HOMER!! Homer sang to my soul. We spent the afternoon collecting shells on the beach and eating fresh raw oysters. Let’s just say I was in love. Before I knew it we were back to the hustle of our norm but Homer! By April we had sold our house and started what we called our great adventure. After eight years of Alaska life Homer and the Spit are magical to me. Shawn and I have always been adventurous and entrepreneurs. Since our move I have dreamed of owning land on the spit and being apart of the tourist life. Well in 2021 that dream became a reality. A famous tackle shop on the spit came up for sale. Shawn and I knew nothing about tackle or really even fishing but we couldn’t resist! The two story building was built in the early 80’s. Above the Tackle Shack were three vacation units with the most spectacular views. We were in love. We knew we could renovate the spaces into beauty, but we also knew that nothing could compare to the sound of the ocean waves crashing. We are still on a learning curve, especially when it comes to bait and tackle but the Inn is our pride and joy!
